The Challenge
Crop diseases spread fast, and most growers notice them only once the damage is visible. By then, every day without the right treatment costs yield.
Experts are scarce.
Small and rural farmers rarely have an agronomist on call, and lab tests take days.
Symptoms look alike.
Fungal, bacterial and nutrient problems can all show as spots or yellowing, so guesses lead to the wrong spray.
Wrong treatment is costly.
Misused fungicides and pesticides waste money, harm soil and still lose the crop.
The goal was a tool simple enough for anyone with a phone camera, yet specific enough to act on.
The Solution
A one-screen web app: upload a leaf photo, press Detect Disease and get a full diagnosis report beside the image.
- 1
The user uploads a leaf image (JPG/PNG) and sees a preview.
- 2
The AI model analyses the visible symptoms on the leaf.
- 3
The app returns the disease name, its type, severity and a confidence score.
- 4
It then lists the symptoms to look for and expert recommendations for treatment and prevention.
In a real test, a rose leaf with dark circular lesions was identified as Black Spot — a fungal disease, rated severe, at 95% confidence — with matching symptoms such as dark purple to black circular spots on the upper leaf surface.

The web front end sends the photo to the backend, which runs it through a trained AI vision model. The model's output is then turned into a structured report: disease, type, severity, confidence, symptoms and recommendations.
Results & Impact
The app cuts diagnosis time from day to second and puts expert-level guidance in the hands of anyone with a camera.
Speed: a full report in seconds, versus days for a lab test or field visit.
You can judge accurately: every result carries a confidence score (95% in the Black Spot test case).
Actionable output: users get treatment steps, not just a label, which reduces guesswork and wasted spraying.
Zero friction: no app install, no account, works in any browser on mobile or desktop.
